During the summer of 2007, my tour group spent the night in the town Arras, France. Arras was the site of massive fighting during the First World War, especially from 9 April to the 16 May in 1917. I'm standing in front of one of the War Memorials found in Arras. This battle saw roughly 160,000 Allied casualties and an estimated 140,000 German casualties.
About an hours walk away is the Arras British War Memorial remembering the over 35,000 Allied soldiers who lost their lives in the battles over this region.
