These ports were known as Mulberry A and Mulberry B. This one, in Arromanches, known as Mulberry B (on Gold Beach), supplied both the British and Canadian units. A storm partially destroyed Mulberry A, on Omaha Beach, which was not properly secured to the seabed. This meant that this port became the only port supplying the entire Western Front against Hitler's Germany until the capture of Antwerp, Belgium and the Scheldt region. Amazing to think that all that material, leading to the defeat of Hitler, passed throught these narrow streets.
