LENINGRAD, USSR - PRESENT DAY ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA

In one of the odd twists of the Second World War, the German Army made no significant attempt to take Leningrad. Instead, Hitler wanted the city leveled to the ground and therefore, laid seige to the city for over 900 days. Hence this memorial near the southern entrance of the city of present day St. Petersburg.
