It may just look like a bridge but this is Pegasus Bridge and some might say that this was the beginning of D-Day. This was the first objective of the airborne during the dark of night of the 5th and 6th of June 1944. The capture of this bridge was essential. Control of this bridge would mean that eventually, the invasion force could cross and eventually take Caen. It was with gliders like the one below that some of the airborne units could land and take the bridge before the Germans could blow it up.
