THE BATTLE OF SACKETS HARBOR
Driving westwards along the POW-MIA memorial highway, I reach another marker indicating a War of 1812 site. This one is just east of Chippewa Bay, NY. At this rest area, the marker indicates that along this seaway, the Wilkinson Campaign led the “Grand” invasion of Canada from September to November of 1813. Naturally, it was led by General Wilkinson. In this invasion, he would attempt to capture Montréal. He would fail at the Battle of Chateauguay
Farther west, we arrive in Alexandra Bay, NY in plain view of Boldt Castle. During the summer, this place is packed! Unfortunately, there was construction on the site where I stood and therefore the War of 1812 plaque was removed. My apologies!
